Steve’s fascination with buildings began in the mid-1980s, particularly with the detail and structure of historic architecture. He entered the building trade with JD Laing, where he learned the importance of solid preparation and pride in workmanship. When weather made exterior work unpredictable, he transitioned indoors and joined a decorating team — and discovered just how impactful a well-finished space could be.

Self-employment followed, and Steve began transforming homes across Kent, quickly building a reputation for quality exterior and interior work. But life led him temporarily down a different path when he joined the City of London Police, following in the footsteps of both his parents. Although recognised as someone who would make a strong officer, something didn’t align internally. The desire to create, to take ownership of results, and to make people genuinely happy through visible transformation could not be ignored.

A few years exploring roles in security, media, and finance — including through the challenges of the financial crash — only confirmed what Steve already felt: decorating was more than a job; it was where he found fulfilment, autonomy, and pride.

Returning fully to the trade, he founded RPS Decor with a renewed sense of purpose: to deliver high-level transformations with care, precision, and honesty — leaving clients genuinely delighted with the results.

His commitment to excellence earned him accreditation as a Dulux Select Decorator — a status awarded only to decorators who consistently demonstrate high-quality workmanship, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
